Artibus Innovation

Welcome to Artibus Innovation

Artibus Innovation has been commissioned by the Australian government to support the Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) for Construction, Plumbing and Services and Property Services in their work reviewing, renewing and developing vocational education and training (VET) within their sectors.

We look at skills training and qualifications for all kinds of occupations in the building and property industries. We talk to employers, workers, trainers, regulators and other industry stakeholders. We explore current and anticipated skills needs, examine data on enrolments and outcomes, and make recommendations for change.

The VET policy framework –  and our role in it

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) is the central body advising federal and state governments on VET policy and strategies. Industry Reference Committees (IRCs), made up of industry experts, advise the AISC on the training needs for their particular sector.

IRCs, in turn, establish more specialised committees – Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) – to look at particular work areas. Skills Service Organisations (SSOs), such as Artibus, provide organisational, research and strategic support to IRCs and TAGs.

Training packages

VET qualifications (e.g. Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling) are achieved by completing units of competency (e.g. CPCCCM2001A – Read and interpret plans and specifications), which outline the skills and knowledge needed to perform work tasks. Qualifications range from entry level (Certificates I and II) to those designed for skilled, specialised work (Certificates III and IV, diplomas and advanced diplomas).

The suite of qualifications and units within each industry sector is known as a training package.

The Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package includes qualifications in areas such as carpentry, concreting, brick and block laying, gas fitting, scaffolding, shopfitting, demolition, painting and decorating, fire protection and construction management.

The Property Services Training Package includes qualifications in real estate, security, surveying and spatial information services, building design, cleaning, waste management, home sustainability assessment and more.
