Project: Fire Protection, Inspection and Testing

Stage 2
SummaryComponents

On behalf of the Property Services IRC, Artibus Innovation is reviewing and updating the following training package components:

  • 2 qualifications:
    • CPP20518 Certificate II in Fire Protection and Safety Measures (Routine Service)
    • CPP30818 Certificate III in Fire Protection and Safety Measures (Routine Service)
  • 66 units of competency
  • 19 skill sets.

After a round of consultation was undertaken February - March 2018, the TAG has considered industry feedback and nominated the following changes:

  • Introduced an embedded requirement for an “on-the-job” mentored / supervised component into the performance evidence for a large number of units to ensure that attainment of qualifications must be undertaken through the acquisition of skills and experience achieved over time
  • A number of units were upgraded to Certificate III level in recognition that technicians generally work autonomously and therefore required more in-depth knowledge of systems and equipment in order to undertake routine service competently
  • Enhanced the operational system knowledge requirements of the majority of units to provide a conceptual understanding of system operation.  Technicians are required to demonstrate knowledge of system design and operation, which will allow them to better determine performance of systems and the identification of problems / potential defects
  • Certificate III packaging rules amended to require a learner to complete all units within a specific stream to gain a qualification.
  • Removed yearly testing of fire sprinkler systems from the training package
  • Yearly fire hydrant servicing unit moved to the Certificate III qualification
  • Several additional units have been included in the latest draft.  These include:
    • CPPFPSM3146   Isolate and reinstate functions on fire indicator panels
    • CPPFPSM3114   Apply building code and regulatory requirements to planned work activities
    • CPPFPSM2151   Conduct recovery of scheduled gaseous fire-extinguishing agents from leaking containers
    • CPPFPSM3168   Conduct routine service of fire detection and controls for vehicular based special hazard systems
