Project: Carpentry and Joinery

Stage 2

On behalf of the Construction, Plumbing and Services IRC, Artibus Innovation is reviewing and updating the following training package components:

  • 5 qualifications:
    • CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry
    • CPC31511 Certificate III in Formwork / Falsework
    • CPC31912 Certificate III in Joinery
    • CPC32011 Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery
    • CPC32211 Certificate III in Joinery (Stairs)
  • 88 units of competency.

Carpentry The requirement from the existing Certificate III in Carpentry for 22 core and 8 elective units has been retained, but the new qualification requires that those electives include a complete specialisation-commercial, formwork or residential.

The bank of core units has been updated, on industry advice, to better reflect competencies that are core to carpentry work, with more optional or specialised competencies included in the elective pool.

Joinery The proposed new qualification will provide a trade qualification into joinery, covering work for residential and commercial applications. Consultation to date has included:

  • a national round of forums which were well attended
  • an industry survey with 270+ responses
  • a Technical Advisory Group which has met on numerous occasions to discuss the current and future needs of the industry and to analyse the feedback received from the forums and survey.

Last updated: February 2019
This project has had 595 visitors.

Stage 2
  • hold technical advisory group (TAG) meetings
  • draft training package components
  • undertake consultation with industry
Public consultation and feedback
We provide public feedback opportunities in various forms, such as public forums to online surveys. When these opportunities arise they will be listed here and announced through our newsletter.
