Project: Integrated Digital Delivery

About IDD

(This is one of a number of proposed projects being explored in the Property Services IRC's forthcoming 2020 Skills Forecast. Timing for this project will be decided based on an assessment of priorities across the Property Services Training Package.)

The construction and property industries are undergoing revolutionary change, with integrated digital delivery (IDD) radically transforming the way the built environment is managed.

IDD is the use of digital technologies to integrate work processes and connect stakeholders working on the same project throughout the construction and building life cycle. A key enabling technology in this transformation is building information modelling (BIM), which combines spatial information with a wide range of other data, allowing options and their impacts to be explored in the virtual world, facilitating the creation of smarter, cleaner, greener, more efficient structures.

The Property Services IRC has identified the need to develop a workforce with skills in IDD to engage with the many opportunities it presents in relation to:

  • digital design
  • digital fabrication
  • digital asset delivery and management
  • digital construction.

Skills are needed across all occupations.  The IRC is exploring options for packaging them into skill sets (or micro-credentials) that can be added to different qualifications or studied as stand-alone modules—for example, as an add-on to qualifications in facilities management or building design and inspection.
